This is not the common fiber optic cable but the latest discovery of KDDI R&D Laboratories and Japan’s National Institute of Information & Communications Technology, which is capable of transferring data at an unprecedented speed of up to 10 times faster than the existing cables. At 30 terabits per second speed is equal to two-hour 720 DVDs transmitted to the other end, that is how this new Fiber Optic Cable works. The technology is not yet finalized but the team hopes to connect Japan’s major cities with this new cable and needs around $210 M budget.
